Cement ball mill diaphragm
Material: High manganese steel, high chromium cast iron or rubber
Standards: standard or customized by drawings
Certificates: ISO, CE.
The ball mill diaphragm is an important component of the ball mill liner. The performance of the ball mill diaphragm not only affects its service life and ball mill operating rate but also has a significant impact on the grinding efficiency of the ball mill.
Materials for ball mill diaphragm include high manganese steel, new composite materials, modified high manganese steel, new high manganese steel, ultra-high manganese steel, super strong high manganese steel, transformed high manganese steel, multi-element alloy steel, high (low) chromium cast iron, etc.

Ball mill diaphragm
For material analysis and selection in ball mills, the compartment plate plays a major role. The main functions of the compartment plate in a ball mill are as follows:
- Separation of grinding bodies: the particle size of the material gradually decreases towards the tail of the mill. It is required that the grinding bodies start with an impact effect and transition towards a grinding effect in the direction of the tail. By adding a compartment plate, different sizes of grinding bodies can be separated to prevent them from mixing and interfering with each other.
- Prevention of large particle material from reaching the discharge end: the compartment plate acts as a sieve, preventing oversized particles from entering the finely grinding compartment with weaker impact forces. Otherwise, the accumulation of unground fine particles would severely affect the grinding efficiency or result in the production of products with inadequate fineness.
- Control of material flow velocity inside the mill: the size and open area of the compartment plate’s perforations determine the flow velocity of the material inside the mill, thereby affecting the amount of time the material undergoes grinding.

Classification of ball mill diaphragm
Single-layer ball mill diaphragm:
Composed of fan-shaped baffles connected by a central circular plate. The outer ring baffles are fixed to the inner wall of the mill body with bolts, while the inner ring baffles are installed in the notches of the outer ring baffles. The central circular plate and the annular fixing ring are fastened together with bolts to the inner ring baffles.
Double-layer ball mill diaphragm:
Consists of a set of blind plates and a set of baffles. The compartment plate has a blind plate on the feed side. When the slurry level in one compartment is higher than the annular fixing ring, it flows into the middle of the double-layer compartment plate and then enters the second compartment through the baffles. Large particles and fragmented grinding media are trapped between the double-layer plates and cleared periodically. The compartment plate seat is fixed to the mill body with bolts, the blind plate is installed on the plate seat, the annular fixing ring is mounted on the blind plate, and the baffles are placed on the plate seat. There is a fixed distance pipe between the blind plate and the baffles, which is tightened with bolts. The central plate is mounted on the baffles.
Lifting-type double-layer ball mill diaphragm:
The material enters the middle of the double-layer compartment plate through the baffles and is lifted into the cone by the lifting plate, then enters the next compartment as the mill rotates. The blind plate and lifting plate are fixed to the compartment plate frame with bolts, the compartment plate seat and wooden blocks are fixed to the inner wall of the mill body with bolts, the baffles and blind plate are installed on the compartment plate seat, and the cone is placed in the middle of the double-layer plate. The central plate is mounted on the cone.
Classification ball mill diaphragm:
In recent years, the application of classification compartment plates has become more widespread, especially in open-circuit mills where it has shown better results. This type of compartment plate allows for internal classification of the materials, ensuring consistent particle size distribution of the discharged material.
Disadvantages: reduced effective volume of the mill, lower grinding efficiency in the areas with less material accumulation on the sides, increased wear on the compartment plate, and higher ventilation resistance compared to single-layer compartment plates.
